Truth is often stranger than fiction. Those who doubt that simple rule should consult the 2010 contest for U.S. Senate in Delaware.
In the most bizarre episode of that campaign, Republican hopeful Christine O'Donnell ran a television ad proclaiming that she was not a witch.
Why? She had to play down remarks dredged up from more than a decade earlier in which she claimed to have dabbled in witchcraft.
"I was dabbling in witchcraft, I've dabbled in Buddhism," O'Donnell said during an appearance on "Politically Incorrect" in 1999. "I would have become a Hare Krishna but I didn't want to become a vegetarian. And that is honestly the reason why -because I'm Italian, I love meatballs!"
O'Donnell lost. Surprisingly.
