From the article: Can the President be Muslim?
He swears he is not, but what if President Obama, or any president for that matter, actually was a Muslim, or Jew, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or other non-Christian? Not that long ago we wondered if America was "ready" for a black president. Apparently, we were. What about a non-Christian president? Will America ever be ready for that? What do You Think?
Non-Christian President?
- I am a Christian and I would vote for a non-Christian president if I agree with most of the candidate's stances on issues.

- That is not a deciding issue but please be sure to have facts correct. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints is most definitely CHRISTIAN !!!!!!!

Church vs. State?
- I don't think the religions of our elected officials should be any of our concern. A persons religion does not determine if they are good or evil; this should be determined by how they conduct themselves. As for all these people saying Islam is evil, ummm seriously? All of the most popular religions preach peace. Any evil or "holy wars" are not stemmed from religion, they are a result of the flaws of man ie. Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. Secularization is the way to go and the way it was meant to be. This country was NOT founded on "Christian principles," this country was founded on religious toleration and freedom for people of all denominations. The only time someone's beliefs should be questioned is if they harm others. If President Obama is a "closet-Muslim," it saddens me that politicians would have to lie about their beliefs to get elected. So I guess Middle-Easterners and Non-Christians are the new blacks, which means we'll get there. kk? kk!

Mrs.
- We do have freedom of Religion as laid down in our laws by our forefather's most of whom were not Christians. I would appreciate seeing more diversity in our presidents. If they understand our history as well as have a clear view of where America is going in the near future, I would prefer that over someone who wants to "Throw up" because of our freedoms. Or anyone pushing a religious agenda of any type.

ISLAM is evil!!!
- "Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people...They desire nothing but your ruin....You believe in the entire Book...When they meet you they say: 'We, too, are believers.' But when alone, they bite their finger-tips with rage." (Surah 3:118, 119) THESE ARE SOME OF MANY EVIL VERSES IN THE UNHOLY QURAN

NO!!!
- Our country was founded on christian principles by christian men We are not Godless violent muslims and as soon as we elect a muslim president (obama) we are in for devistation. Muslims are taught to lie and kill. If you do not believe me google Quran and violence and you will begin to see some of the fallacy of this evil evil evil faith I can not stress it enough. ISLAM is EVIL

Does it matter?
- Does it really matter if we have a president who is a non-christian? If it does matter to you then you are a racist. What would be the difference if our president believed in a different religion, it doesn't affect how they think. Just because you are a Muslim doesn't mean you are a terrorist, just because you are a Buddhist doesn't mean you are a tree-hugging hippie. If you people still believe in this terrorist bull then must I say you are a pathetic excuse of a man or woman. What would happen if we had a Muslim president? What would you do? Oh wait I know, you disgusting pigs would do anything just to rule against him that's how I know you're weak, because you can't face the truth.

i think so
- I think we should be ready. why would someone's religion matter if they can lead a country? Im american. Im muslim. no where in the constitution does it say a president must be a believer in christ. or in any deity for that matter. religion is just simply faith. Though my faith differs with the view prevalent in america, it doesn't mean im immoral. Just because our al-qaeda counterparts decided to blow a few buildings up doesn't mean that every muslim man and woman is a terrorist. but i've noticed that christian people have a tendancy of seeing a hijab and thinking "oh god, she's a terrorist" so maybe it's because i'm the minority, but i think america is ready to have a non christian president. and obama is not muslim. he just gave osama the respect a human being deserves. who cares if he doesn't go to church? a bunch of christian people don't go to church. as soon as we as a whole are willing to accept differences, america will be ready for any type of president.

In due time
- First, I'd like to point out to David that most of the founding fathers were Deists, minus Adams and his son whom were Unitarian Universalists, and went out of their way to specifically make sure Christianity, or any religion for that matter, did not influence their decisions. Personally, I believe we should be, but we're not. Look at these comments, they are spewing venomous, slanderous, and out right racist critiques about him on the false notion he may be Muslim. But I do agree with Larry, and that one day we will have a non-Christian president, a gay president, a female president, everything. We will one day-just not now.

General
- Even though this country was founded on religion, it was meant to rule separately from religion. Since there are only two requirements in order to qualify as a presidential candidate, there is no reason any one of any faith cannot attempt to run for the position. Keep in mind that America is a free country, where anyone can make their dreams come true regardless of who they are. Therefore opposing a well educated and potentially beneficial candidate due to his or her religion is against the foundations of this great country. Also, America has been attempting to have a female president for a while, while other Muslim countries have already had a few very capable and strong female rulers.

Buddhism
- This country is in dire need of a Buddhist president. No wars have ever been fought in the name of Buddhism. It advocates true tolerance, forgiveness, and peaceful compassion. Already it permeates our society in the form of Yoga, meditation, natural medicines and the like. All Buddhism needs for people to give it a chance is a reason to research it.

Non-Christian President
- Obama is not eligible because (1) he was a muslim (2) they are our enemies and (3) he is siding with them in many subjects (4) he said we were not a christian country anylonger - baloney

It will signal the end of America
- Americans were deceived into believing Obama was a Christian; he was elected on that basis even though it has been revealed that his sympathies and bias are really Muslim. Because most Americans are untaught about the Christian underpinnings of our nation, they are duped into believing the lie of "separation of church and state" which is a recent construct. Washington, Adams, Jefferson and many other founders all agreed that this experiment in a Republic democracy required virtue and knowledge and "trust in God" in its electorate. The question as phrased must be referring to a Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist,Animist, or Atheist President, not to whether Catholic, Mormon or Jewish (all belong to the Judeo/Christian foundation of USA). If we elect outside the Judeo/Christian faith, it will destroy the very basis of our society.
