Tiny New Battery Offers Medical Miracles
Wednesday September 24, 2003
Researchers at Argonne National Laboratory have developed a tiny battery that can be implanted into the body to power a vast array of medical devices. Called "bionic neurons,” the batteries are less than 1/35 the size of a standard AA cell and can be programmed and recharged from outside the body. In this Argonne press release, researchers describe how the tiny battery system can be used to power devices for treating a wide range of neurological disorders.
