Federal Aid to CA Fire Victims Tops $17 Million

Friday November 9, 2007
As of November 5, combined federal assistance to victims of the Southern California wildfires in late October had totaled over $17.4 million.

As reported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the federal assistance disbursed so far includes $5,625,790 in grants for housing and other personal recovery needs and $11,784,700 in Small Business Administration loans to individuals and businesses.

A total of 14,728 Californians who registered for disaster assistance are being served at nine FEMA field assistance centers setup in or near the most devastated areas.

Victims of the Southern California fires who have not yet registered for federal recovery assistance may still do so by calling FEMA toll-free at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The FMEA lines will remain open 24/7 until further notice. Victims of declared disasters can also register for assistance online.
