Tax Rebates for Joint Filers

Monday April 28, 2008
"We filed a joint return, so who gets the tax rebate?" The entire rebate will go to the first Social Security number listed on the tax return. By law, each spouse is considered to receive half of the payment in cases where a joint 2007 return was filed.

If the joint filers chose to have their tax refund direct deposited, the rebate will be direct deposited into the same account that received the tax refund.

In cases in which the rebate is to be paid by regular check, the check will be made out to both spouses, and both spouses will need to endorse the check in order for it to be deposited or cashed.

If you still have questions regarding the Tax Rebate, you can call the IRS directly at toll-free: Toll-Free, 1-800-829-1040. Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. your local time.
