The U.S. Mint has revealed the successful design for its 2009 Native American $1 Coin. Unveiled on November 28 – Native American Heritage Day – the reverse (tails side) of the 2009 Native American $1 Coin will feature a Native American woman planting seeds in a field of corn, beans and squash, representing the Three Sisters method of planting. The obverse (heads side) of the coin will display the Golden Dollar’s image of Sacagawea.
Scheduled to go into circulation in January 2009, the Native American $1 Coin will feature a new Native American theme on the reverse (tails side) each year.
"We are proud to produce the Native American $1 Coin," said United States Mint Director Ed Moy in a press release. "When Americans use this coin, we hope they reflect on the tremendous contributions Native Americans have made, and continue to make, to our Nation."
