New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani warned the nation today of telemarketing firms making fraudulent calls soliciting monetary donations to assist persons affected by the terrorist attacks of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.
The mayor advises that the telemarketers are mainly targeting the elderly, but could call anyone in the nation.
According to Mayor Giuliani, only one official national recovery fund has been established. Persons wishing to make donations should call the following number only: Toll Free 1-800-801-8092
The mayor asked anyone receiving a call soliciting monetary donations to report the caller to their local police.
Mayor Giuliani warned bogus telemarketers, "If we find you, we will put you in jail."
