Want to contribute directly to federal tax reform efforts? If federal taxes give you headaches from struggling with an unnecessarily complex and often unfair system, the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform wants to hear your complaints.

The Panel on Federal Tax Reform, headed by Rep. Connie Mack (R, Florida, 14th), is seeking public comments on the following income tax related issues:

  • Headaches, unnecessary complexity, and burdens that taxpayers - both individuals and businesses - face because of the existing system.

  • Aspects of the tax system that are unfair.

  • Specific examples of how the tax code distorts important business or personal decisions.

  • Goals that the Panel should try to achieve as it evaluates the existing tax system and recommends options for reform.

At this point, the Panel is not asking for specific proposals.

Information on how to submit comments as well as details on the required format for comments are available at http://www.taxreformpanel.gov/contact/. Comments submitted in connection with this first request must be received by the Panel no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 18, 2005 . All comments submitted will be made available to the public.

The President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform was established by President Bush on January 7, 2005. The bipartisan panel is charged with recommending reforms to the tax code that will make the U.S. tax system simpler, fairer and more growth oriented.

Further details are available on the Panel's Website.
