law vs politics

If all justices are supposed to decide LAW, why are most of the decisions based on the political bent of each justice? I could understand if eight judges knew specific laws to base their decision on, and one either didn't know or wasn't listening when laws were being debated, but I have come to the conclusion that they ONLY are concerned about politics....which is altogether too bad.

IN A DEMOCRACY

THERE HAS TO BE VARIED OPINIONS AND VOICES REPRESENTING THEM..OR ITS NOT A DEMOCRACY

I think 11 is adequate. Too many would only confuse the public.

chanels of community

there is a need for chanels of community comunications to reach the governing body that are streamlined and accessable to public audit yet restraints in activation of response should be left to the educated majority with an equality of rights given to human first ideologies the environment will prevail any way so we as people should guide ourselfs. society still must contend with earths orbit as non human by nature. the freedoms of future space will remain as individual as their respective individuals allow. strengths will come and go dependant on the content of their current containment and the justices need more than one individual to bring about obedience inorder to remain innocent society might benifit from the understandings of their surviving under educated classes comments by defining their crimes as a goal instead of occuring as a form of speach to reoccure. the consumtion of retention should decide how many justices are needed not the expansion of educators

99

You could have 99 justices and if they were appointed and confirmed the way they are today the decisions would be the same, only 50 to 49.

More Needed

13 seems to be a number that would more easily allow for wider representation of all groups, yet not to large for full debate.

how many judges

I don't care how many judges, as long as they are for the common person or democratically oriented - sometimes misleadingly called "liberal".
—Guest Guest Mom-Adele

Number of Judges

I don't care how many we have as long as there are more conservative than liberal.
—Guest Bill

Always an even number.

If you don't have an even number you just leave everything up to close minded ideology. We need stalemates to help lengthen critical debates.
—Guest Rico

odd or even, that is the question......

Since when is 13 an "even" number, and "even" if it were, if however many justices there are/or become, would "even justly" evaluate issues on the basis of the Constitution as written and not on public opinion, ideology or personal preferance, would "even" be a step in the "right" direction, so we all aren't "left" out in the cold.

12 WISE MEN

You have to have "12 WISE MEN." Their decision must sometimes get hung to have more time to think about it.

Odd Number

Franklin Roosevelt tried to expand the court in order to force through some of his legislation. The attempt failed. The use of nine members has advantages: (1) it is an odd number, thereby reducing tie votes on a decision for the full court; (2) a smaller number places even more power in fewer persons; (3) a larger number creates a longer time for decisions that are, more likely, partisan in outcome.

Federal Election Commission

When unfriendly corporations funded by money from oil- or drug-rich nations exercise their right to print or speak hate speech and propaganda, we will all suffer the effect of this erroneous decisions. Corporations do not cast individual votes to elect representatives and they should not be afforded the rights that individuals have under our Constitution. Corporations and individuals are two separate things--they ARE NOT the same thing.

Politicians

I believe we should try to appoint real judges - - I know that 5 are politicians - -dressed in judicial robes. Who are beholden to big business, big money and corporate lobbying. They should be thrown off!!

One Justice per One Circuit Court

There should be a return to the tradition of each US Circuit Court of Appeals to have only one US Supreme Court Justice assigned to a Circuit and to attend or "ride" the Circuit. There are thirteen circuits so four more justices are required. Also each justice should be appointed from each circuit.
